Final panel test of new resistant grape varieties

Wednesday, 24 March 2010

Several resistant grape varieties have been developed by the University of Udine (UNIUD) in collaboration with the Institute of Applied Genomics (IGA) and the Vivai Cooperativi di Rauscedo (VCR) and will be released in late 2012.

The project has been carried on using traditional breeding approaches and the knowledge obtained from the recently sequenced Vitis genome, taking 12 years and an  investment of 2 millions Euro. The panel test on micro-vinifications of the best selections (6 with white and 5 with black berries) will be held at the VCR facility in Pordenone on March 25th.

After this final wine quality test  the best selections will be multiplied and released on the market by VCR, one of the world leader producer of clones and grafted vines.
