The results of the French-Italian grape genome sequencing project and their potential for applications
After the first draft of the grape genome sequence published on Nature in August 26, 2007, the French-Italian VIGNA/VIGNE Consortium announces that the grape genome is now completely sequenced and annotated.
This whole-day workshop is addressed to the scientific community of plant biologists, molecular geneticists, bioinformaticists and more in general scientists interested to learn about the structural and functional organisation of a plant genome. PhD and post-doc students are warmly invited to participate to the workshop to learn more about the techniques developed by the scientists in assembling a genome of some 480 Mb sequenced through a whole genome shotgun approach.
The annotation of genes, transcription factors, small and micro RNAs are only some among the topics addressed by the speakers. Moreover, being the project strongly oriented to the solution of grapevine agronomic problems, scientists working in viticulture, plant nutrition, plant-pathogen interaction, plant genetics and breeding can find interesting points of contact with their daily research.
The participation is free of charge and no registration is required.
